The New Westminster Integrated Family Program offers families who are referred through the Ministry of Children and Family Development qualified family therapists who have the skills and abilities to address the multiplicity of reasons for Ministry involvement with emphasis on violence in the family and inter-generational conflict; enhance parental capacity, and; improve family relationships.

Primary Purpose:

To provide goal-oriented home and community-based service activities with multiple components to prevent out-of-home placement and reduce risk of maltreatment.? Family Counsellors will provide counselling support to parents experiencing domestic violence and Therapeutic Visitation.? Therapeutic Visitation employs therapeutic and educational interventions in order to support the development of healthier parent-child relationships.? Family Counsellors will develop, implement, and evaluate the most effective plan in order to ensure child protection, family violence intervention, and safety planning for the family and the community.

Key Duties/Accountabilities:

Screen, assess, and provide interventions through a variety of established intervention techniques in order to resolve any issues of safety that would prevent a child from being maintained in the home of their biological parent or guardian.? Facilitate the development of parenting capacity through Therapeutic Supervised Visitations. Provide services within an ethno-cultural framework, ensuring that the family’s culture and values are seen as strengths and are integrated into service plans. Participate as part of an Integrated Case Management team, where appropriate, to support the goals and needs of families and children. Participate in the evaluation of services provided, planning activities, and other continuous quality improvement processes. Complete all documentation and reports in the time frame and format required.?Participate in clinical supervision and adhere to the policy and practices of the Society.

Education and Experience:

  • MA or related degree
  • Registered with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.
  • Minimum of two years experience

Skills and Abilities:

  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Experience with Parent-Child-Interactive Therapy, Connect Parenting Program and/or Positive Parenting Program desired.

Basic Requirements:?

  • Local and provincial criminal record checks including vulnerable sector.
  • A valid driver’s license, clear driver’s abstract and use of own car for work purposes. Mileage is provided.
